Iceland Comes “Home”

By now you’ve probably heard about Sigur Rós‘ new film, Heima, and no doubt you’ve also heard about their new double acoustic album, Hvarf/Heim, is scheduled to drop just a couple weeks earlier of the film’s release on November 6th. What you probably DIDN’T know, though, is that they guys have been traveling around screening the film and playing brief 20 minute acoustic sets along at screenings.

Unfortunately I was out of town for their most recent screening at the Good-Shepherd Faith Church here in NYC last weekend, but I was able to track down the set in all it’s variably-bitrated acoustic goodness and have them to share with you. Now the most striking thing to me about these 3 songs is how well they translate to a more bare, stripped down sound. The thing that I’ve always found most beautiful and entrancing about Sigur Rós’ sound is the way you can just close your eyes, drift away and get lost in a wash of noise and guitar feedback, so it really comes as a shock (though it honestly shouldn’t) at how great these sound.

Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun (acoustic)

Sigur Rós - Heima (acoustic)

Sigur Rós - Njósnavélin (acoustic)

Also, here’s a link to the band’s Myspace, where they’re currently streaming clips from 4 of the tracks off the new record. Good God, man, November 5th can’t come soon enough!

Okay. So only one person has cared enough to leave their two cents. How depressing! Especially considering all the trouble I went through posting this in the first place. Well you can leave a comment if you want. It might cheer me up.

  1. Can’t wait… I’ve been blown away ever since the trailer surfaced a month or so ago…

One thing I haven’t seen noted is whether this will be a theatrical release or DVD (it’ll never make it to the theaters here.)
