Breaking Out The Layers
Today the coming sign of this year's holiday schedule finally dropped. With the fall-like 60F degree temperature invading my Indian summer fun, I was forced to finally grab my favorite sweatshirt -- a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. sweatshirt picked up in San Fran, CA almost 6 years ago. A sign that all things hot and sweltering are indeed passing, instead now I have shorter days, cold weather, holidays, and snow to look forward to. For a season that allows such pessimism to bubble forth from my usual optimistic self, there are many singular items which I do enjoy for moments throughout this transitional season. I do enjoy the brisk cold air when playing a friendly game of two-hand touch football. I do enjoy going to the plethora of heritage and harvest fairs in the area. I relish the opportunity to start enjoying a number of AHL Hockey games with my dad. I enjoy the first snow and the anticipation of the Christmas holiday. I enjoy the holiday festivities and gathering of friends and families. All of these moments though are singular moments amidst a long cold season which somewhere about late February I know I'll just be dragging through. So with a heavy heart I pack up this summer's memories amidst the sandals, shorts, and swimming trunks. I now resign myself toward longer nights and days in which I may go without ever seeing the sun rise or fall. At least in the end I'll have some solid jazz to keep my company on these cold nights. As a matter of fact; jazz, hot chocolate and a crackling fireplace doesn't sound that bad in the end. This entry was posted on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 12:40pm. Finally! 2 loving people have cared enough to share their thoughts with me. Why don't you join the party?
Like yourself, within me is a love/hate relationship for all things winter and cold. It’s a strange dichotomy which allows me to love the coming of winter and chilly days, snow etc. and yet long for spring after too many sunless days have passed. In fact, although I will probably be spending this winter in Florida (hardly winter), I shall one day return to “the land of the ice and snow”. to quote led zeppelin....viva snowboarding…
