And Now For Something Alittle More Interesting…

*The New York Times* has an interesting story today on the 14-week attendance decline the box office has seen compared to last year (a 8.1 percent decrease so far). Not even *Star Wars III: Revenge Of The Sith* could slow the decline. I find this whole story fascinating not because I want to see Hollywood make a million or two off their remanufactured crap every year, but because it's causing business execs to wake up in Hollywood that the world is changing and their stories suck. Some of the reasons of this decline I do think are tied up their inability to change with tecnology. Shua commented last night on the same thing concerning Google. And while *Google* continue to heads forward, reinventing it's method of delivery and service; Hollywood is a complete 180 of finding a formula that worked for period of years and never straying too far from the formula. The same thing can be found within the music industry as well. Cookie cut-outs of manufactured music all sounding like the other with slight variations. The delivery of movies has to be re-thought. As people are able to get movies, DVDs, video games, and the internet on demand from mutiple devices; their loss of attention with movies shouldn't be striking. Personally I just don't have time (nor the money) to fight a crowd every week and waste an hour of my time before I actually see the movie. I enjoy trailers, but honestly that's why God created Quicktime Trailers for. Do your research before you get there and spare me my time. Concerning ticket prices. I think this is as much as an issue now then before. In years past, laying down $5 for after 6PM flick was fine. You knew that a movie rental would cost you as much, so why not see something new in surround sound? Yet with the advent of home theatre systems, crisper and larger TV screens, and video services like NetFlix and Blockbuster Online that is not no longer the case. The cost is no longer justified compared to the quality of the product. Personally the last movie I paid to see was sometime last year. I honestly can't even remember the title. I've been given movie passes that I used to see Finding Neverland and Star Wars III. And with the new bumper crop of summer movies set to be released soon, the only two that have peaked my interest are Cinderalla Man and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe. Everything else looks like it can wait until its DVD release.

Which leads me into my last point: Is it me or do all the movies recently (with few exceptions) suck balls? Cause they do. I don't want to reiterate the article's points, but I do want to state why I agree with them. Today, for the most part, movies suck and that needs to change soon or you'll continue to see this sharp attendance decline. Music news: Take a listen to Cheap Cologne's "Double Black Album", mixing Jay-Z's & Metallica's "Black" albums.

  3. Just wait till iTunes has movies for download (and its coming in the next year). And AirTunes then delivers your movies to your TV.

Also, prices of EVERYTHING are on the rise—education, insurance, homes, gas, products. all these things are intertwined. forums, in hollywood’s mind—guarantee’s at least profit (where taking risks may or may not payoff, and they’re afraid of not making money). you’ll see more Mel Gibson, Napoleon Dynamite type productions that find ways to make their stories apart from the “Hollywood” franchise.
