A Pause, Harry Potter, & Recent Listens

Today is one of those days when I'm somewhat at a loss for words, yet I don't want to merely say nothing. An odd juxtaposition situation I think. There has been one thought rolling around in my head the last few days. Nothing profound, but a thought nonetheless. Some of you might know that I've been reading the famed Harry Potter series. Basically I wanted to know why this series has intrigued young kids across the world, and since my wife had borrowed the first book from her sister I figured I give it a whirl. Well this past holiday I finished both the second and third books of the series. As I finished the third book, I kept thinking to myself how close the movie was matching up with the book. As with all movie-book adaptations, there are some deviations from the original; yet forgiving the small instances (which typically are where something happens or who said something) the movie largely portrays the book well on the screen. I'm not sure why this surprised me. I imagine with the 700+ page editions that we find with the fourth, fifth, and sixth editions the movies will increasingly find it harder to stay on track because of the amount of information; yet I'm still impressed. I guess the best storyline for a movie ideally should be targeted toward a 5th-8th grade reading level. Or maybe J.K. Rowling has stumbled upon a great formula for commercial success. In other news, I'm heavily considering *Saxon Shore's* _The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore_ and *The Fray's* _How To Save A Life_ for the Top 10. So far I'm thinking their in the Top 50, possibly the Top 25. Where from there is anyone's guess right now. *Stephen Malkmus'* _Face The Truth_ has been stricken from contention.
