A Momentary Commercial On The Joyful Idea of Being Debt-Free, Or Despite My Best Wishes I Probably W

It's not exactly rocket science, but I'm beginning to think that playing the whole "what if" is a rather foolish thing. Besides the most common misconception that assumes that any change to our current lives will somehow be for our own good, we also presuppose that we could actually make better judgments knowing what we know now -- which is a rather ass-backwards statement if you truly think about it. If we were to somehow have chosen A versus B (and it's rarely that simple), we wouldn't be any smarter for the decision then because we would still lack the knowledge of experience. Ah yes. Experience. The thing we all need but moan in aquiring. Experience tells me that mismanagement of finances leads to some stupid mistakes. I could have "learned" that by talking to others, reading up on the subject, or listening to someone else's experience; yet unfortunately I sometimes still choose to learn by that hard mistriss called experience. Sometimes the lesson we receive is a merely a stinging reminder to change, but other times it's a crippling blow of reality that takes years to crawl out from. While the medicine of swallowing one's pride is a rather hard moment, I'm glad for my stinging reminder rather then waiting for my overbearing lesson. I'm not looking to become the guy's evangelist, but anyone who's looking to get out from underneath any type of debt: credit card, student loans, car payments, etc.. Do yourself a favor and read *Dave Ramsey's* book _The Total Money Makeover_. He outlines seven baby steps which will help you over 6, 7, 8, or more years to elminate all your debt (including a mortgage) and start investing in yourself by using your current income. No gimmicks. No real estate licenses required. Just hard work and determination.
