14 Days Til Fall

I know "officially" fall begins this Thursday, September 22, 2005; but for me fall begins once two items have been completed. The first of these will be enjoyed this coming Saturday -- a journey once again to Paradise, PA where my wife & I will seek to uphold our two years of winning at the "Amazing Maize Maze":http://www.americanmaze.com/cherrycrest.htm (Holy blinking text Batman!). A fun little time in the corn fields of Lancaster County, PA; this yearly event has been a family tradition for the past 9 years. Two years ago my wife & I managed to win by a mere handful of seconds and last year held onto our title by trouncing my parents by almost 15 minutes. Taunting ensued. Books were scrapped in memory. You get the idea. This year though we'll be going with the young adult group from my "church":http://www.churchofthelivingchrist.cc, so competition will be a bit steeper. Second fall officially is ushered in for me when the baseball season ends, which is oddly enough in 14 days. For all the baseball fans out there, it's an incredible time of year. 13 teams are vying for 8 postseason spots. For those who question baseball parity and parade the NFL as somehow more balanced, suck on big toe. MLB has had a different World Series winner every year since 2000. The NFL in the same time? Three. This year smaller market teams like Cleveland, Philadelphia, Oakland, and Houston all have a legitimate shot at either winning their division or respective league Wild Card. Who will make it into the postseason and who will be sent home crying? It'll all be answered in the next two weeks. Teams to watch: *Chicago White Sox & Cleveland Indians:* With 6 remaining games to played between the two teams and the Tribe back only 3.5 games, the White Sox up by 15 games on Aug. 1 will have committed the biggest regular season choke job ever in the history of MLB if they fail to win the AL Central. The biggest choke job ever though remains in firm control of the 2004 NY Yankees who up 3-0 in a best of seven series, with arguably the best postseason closer ever with a 4-3 lead loses the game 6-4 in 12 innings and then is swept the rest of the series. *Boston Red Sox & New York Yankees:* BoSox are up by a 1.5 games. Basically unless Chicago completely falls apart in the last two weeks, the loser between these two stays home. Boston has series against Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Toronto, and New York remaining. Of the four series (13 games), only New York has a winning record. To clinch the division title Boston needs to win ever remaining series. That would give them a record of 9-4. The Yankees play Baltimore, Toronto, Baltimore, and Boston; which the last week on the road. Basically the Yankees just need to keep close and take the series in Boston to clinch. Man it's going to be a crazy 14 days. One last note is that fall for me officially begins when *Heritage Days* kicks off here in Perry County, PA. Oddly enough, this year the event begins the first weekend of October. Fancy that.

Finally! 2 loving people have cared enough to share their thoughts with me. Why don't you join the party?

  1. Make sure you get the fries at Heritage they kick arse. Also, kill everyone in time in the maize. If it was me I would be going through the corn stalks rather than the path they paved...but you know that.

Side note: Coldplay rocked in concert. They put on an amazing show. It didn’t even feel they sang for 2 hours. I can see know why you raved about them in concert. The amphitheatre they played in Nashvegas was so crowded all you could were about 30,000 heads..they rocked! They also sang “Ring of Fire” by Cash, and paid tribute to him ("Swallowed In The Sea” song), it was great.

  2. I am saddened by the recent choking of the Chicago White Sox. If they blow their 15 game lead and lose the AL central to the Indians (God forbid) it will be the worst thing to happen to that organization since Shoeless Joe Jackson and others were accused of fixing the 1919 world series. Poor Windy City, Cubs and Sox fans just can’t catch a break. Well, at least they HAD da Bulls and da 1984 Bears..hmm...But I guess I’m jumping the gun. After all, there are still 2 weeks to play and Sox still hang on to the lead, if but by a thread. My ideal matchup is this: Braves (i’m sorry i’m an unabashed braves fan) either Chicago or Boston. But I agree with you Josh, this year in MLB is good one to be a fan!
